Hasps and staples are essential hardware components used for securing doors, gates, chests, and other items.

A hasp typically consists of a hinged metal plate with holes for screws or bolts. It’s mounted onto the surface of a door or gate, and when closed, it covers the area where a padlock or other locking mechanism can be placed. This adds an extra layer of security by preventing access to the locking mechanism itself.

Staples, often referred to as padlock staples or staples with eyes, are U-shaped metal components. They’re installed into the frame or mounting surface opposite the hasp. When the hasp is closed, the staple fits through the hasp’s locking hole, and a padlock is secured through both the staple and the hasp, effectively locking them together.

Together, hasps and staples create a secure locking system. They’re commonly used in various applications, including securing toolboxes, storage chests, gates, and sheds, providing protection against theft or unauthorized access.
